Yuba Salmon Campaign
Campaign Goals
- To eliminate the unnecessary losses of salmon and steelhead
at and around the Daguerre Point Dam site
- To
create volitional passage opportunities for sturgeon to
suitable spawning areas in the Yuba
- To
work with other stakeholders to improve spawning and rearing
habitat on the lower Yuba
- To
reintroduce salmon and steelhead to ancestral spawning areas
- To
build a community of supporters who understand the historical,
ecological, and cultural importance of salmon in the upper
Yuba watershed
Campaign Strategies and Actions
- Pursue legal remedies from the federal government for failing
to protect and recover threatened species that are impacted
by federal projects
- Educate
local, state, and federal policymakers about threats and
opportunities for Yuba salmon
- Work
collaboratively to ensure that proposed fisheries agreements
on the lower Yuba reach a resolution that provides long-term
protection of Yuba salmon
- Engage
community members in riparian restoration projects on the
lower Yuba that improve rearing habitat for juvenile salmon
- Continue
to advocate for levee setbacks and floodplain restoration
downstream of the Yuba, which provides critical rearing
habitat for juvenile salmon
- Educate
20 percent of school children from source to sea through
our 'Journey of the Salmonids' assembly program.
